Dr. Ovenmitt (Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Yeast)
Well, not really. As previously mentioned RJA won the latest incarnation of my pick a number contest. It's simple really, you pick a number between one and one hundred. Closest guess wins. You'd be surprised how many people can't grasp the concept, or just can't be bothered. I disqualify anybody who picks 69, 42, or asks if 1 and 100 are valid guesses. Things are a lot simpler that way.
Anyways, he chose Cinnamon Buns as his prize so I'm now attempting to pay up. Needless to say, the first incarnation didn't go so well. I couldn't get the yeast activated, as seen in exhibit A. If you look closely, you'll see exactly nothing. That's right, the yeast failed to activate. Needless to say, I have a call into tech support. Hopefully, Anna will be able to straighten me out. Of course, any other advice is appreciated. I aborted on the retry as I did not have sufficient quantities of evaporated milk to try again. As Eisenhower so famously said, "Practice makes you obsessive compulsive".
Tomorrow night is Magic night, so I decided then to get a headstart on the cooking. Mostly cause I had to get a head start on the cooking or we'd be eating on Tuesday. On the menu is Paprika Pork, basmati rice, and chappatiis. With the pork out of the way, I'll be able to whip up the rice, and concentrate on the chappatis. Hopefully my new rolling pin will work out better. I bought a French Rolling Pin, which is just another way of saying a tapered piece of dowling. Vive la France! Maudits grenoiulles.
My favourite part of this recipe has to be the peppers which get roasted up. Even without being immersed in porky goodness, they're a sight to behold.
Awaiting Immersion in Porky Goodness

Awaiting Immersion in Porky GoodnessBeyond that, the weekend has seen much playing of Neverwinter Nights 2, as well as lunch with Wbl yesterday. I don't know if I'd call it a date, but lunch was good (Moxie's Bayshore) and the company was agreeable. Afterwards, she helped me find a decent rolling pin for Serdmom, as that is on her Christmas list. I don't know where this is going, if it's going anywhere.
In the other shoe department, Wbl has suggested that she'll be moving to Edmonton in August for schooling, and then onto other things. It sounds like she's got a good opportunity, and it's something she seems to want to do. Part of me wants to see how far this will go, and the other part of me really just wants to back away to keep from hurting anybody, myself included. She's really nice person, and I find myself just babbling (more than usual) when I'm around her. /shrug I'll figure it out.

I've never had that much luck with yeast baking, I did however with sourdough. And there's a really great recipe for sourdough sticky buns that I have. ;) I'm not sure the exact problem that I have with yeast baking, but it's something I'd planned on working on but never got around to. :)
