Quarterly Update

School
Less than two months remain in class, and I'm looking forward to the end of the semester. It's going to be busy in the meantime, though. Despite swearing that I wouldn't tutor again this semester, I seem to be picking up more hours than I did last semester. I had originally signed up to tutor my current accounting course, which we'll call Accounting 5 and 6. Imagine my surprise when I get not one, but two students booking me for this course. Students who weren't in my class (I know these things).

It turns out that they were desperate for accounting tutors, so they just started assigning people who had higher level courses. It makes me wonder why they even bother with the pretense of getting the students to be approved by their professors in order to tutor the course. Especially when the student (me) hadn't requested approval from the professor yet.

Oh well, money in the bank. Having said that, I'l probably not get any more time booked. In that case, I guess I'll do my homework since I only tutor Tuesdays and Thursdays when I have a 6 hour break between my morning classes and my night classes.

Paycheques
On a related topic, I still refuse to provide my Social Insurance Number everytime I submit my timesheet. I have an employee number for a reason. Pfft.

Paycheques II
I've got resumes out and circulating. I had one informal interview last week, and one formal interview on Saturday. I'm getting back into the swing of interviewing; it really is a mindset. Of course, all of this is confuzzled by the fact that I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Ideally, I'd like to work somewhere that I could get a little taste of everything.

Avenue Q
The Singer and I met RJA on Spark St. yesterday for a pre-show nosh on all things BBQ at the Ottawa Chicken and Ribfest. As always, the chicken and pulled pork was excellent, but the ribs were disappointing (dry and not a lot of meat or flavour).

We went on to the show, which was really quite funny though not for anybody under the age of 19 nor for the easily offended. RJA did not join us, as he to head back home to pack for his impending move. I shall take the opportunity to repay incurred moving credits as he moves into his new home, where I look forward to his forthcoming

Sausage Party
Once he's settled in, I hope and expect that he'll be able to pull off this social event. The idea of making, stuffing and sharing my own special sausages is quite exciting. I'll have to find a good recipe; probably one involving bacon.

Chicken
We've taken to roasting whole chickens lately. I've determined that start to finish, a roast chicken is a two hour meal.

1) Heat oven to 375
2) Stuff chicken with two or three tangerines, cut in half. Coat skin with a bit of olive oil, garlic powder, seasoned salt and the zest from the oranges you just stuffed the chicken with.
3) Put the chicken in the oven and forget about it for 45 minutes. In that time, quarter the potatoes and parboil them for 10 minutes
4) In the oven, heat a pan with some oil (canola, sunflower) for or so minutes.
5) Drain the potatoes (save a couple cups of water), and then then add them to the pan with the hot oil. Shake and coat.

At this point, you should be at the 45 minute mark for the chicken.

6) Insert potatoes, and baste the chicken. Forget for another 45 minutes.
7) Prep veggies (broccoli, caulflower whatever).
8) At the 90 minute mark the chicken should be done, or close to done. A meat thermometer in the breast will tell you for sure. Pull it and let it rest for a bit.
9) Crank up the oven to 425 so the potatoes can get nice and crispy.
10) Steam veggies.
11) Make gravy.
12) Carve chicken
13) Pull potatoes. Two hours mark.
14) Serve.
15) Eat. Bask in the glow of your loved one who appreciates the meal.
16-200029) Clean up a great bloody mess in the kitchen.

Finally
Life is better when you have a stick.
