You get more with a kind word...
...and a bastard sword than you do with just a kind word. Ahh, Conan is there nothing you can not cleave? The soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian was playing as I prepared dinner for game night. Ok, well it was one song... I've had Anvil of Crom on pretty heavy rotation. Just something about those horns and the timpanis. Very martial... makes me want to crush my enemies, see them driven before me and hear the lamentations of the women, all while wearing animal skins, reciting the poetry of Kitai and contemplating the philosophy of Sung.
er... but I digress. Dinner was a fairly simple affair tonight, as I made a recipe off the Kraft website; Easy Chicken Parmesan. True to it's name, it's very easy. The only concern I had was the chicken. While I'm a fan of dark meat, this sort of recipe calls for breast meat, which tends to be a bit more expensive.
Needless to say, I was quite happy to see the breast family pack of 5 for 6.50. Which is a hell of a lot cheaper than the 23 dollars people would pay for a pack of 8 boneless skinless breasts. In fact, I picked up 9 breast for 12 bucks, and was quite happy to remove the skin and bone myself. Once that was done, I cut them in half, and tossed them into the pan along with the sauce and parmesan. I covered the pan, threw it in the oven and forgot about it for 30 minutes.
Then it was a simple matter of cooking the rice and the noodles (see how good I am to my guests, cooking both starchy staples to accompany the dinner, Optimist Prime?). I still eschew the use of a rice cooker, instead prefering to cook the rice in a 2:1 water/rice ratio where I boil the water first, add the rice and bring it up to a covered boil. Once it's boiling, I reduce the heat to min and forget about the rice for twenty minutes (DO NOT PEEK!!!). Plenty of time to cook the pasta and cut the bread.
All total, everything was served up only 10 minutes after I had anticipated and that's because I was slow to add the additional cheese to the chicken dish.
Game night was enjoyable, and I'm sure Nail will give you a better play by play if you're really interested. I think Null won the game of Magic (I sat out due to dinner duties), and I know Nail handily won the game of Vampire.
But the best part about hosting game night...
I don't have to drive home afterwards. Cheers!

I've totally used the recipe before. It's killer easy.
Yeah, I have some sauce and uncooked chicken left, so I'll do up another little bit later in the week though I'll throw some veggies and garlic in.
Cause I like veggies and garlic.
1) Rice Cookers rock. Once you use one, you'll never go back to a pot.
2) Chicken breast... Best price - Costco. You can get around 8-10 breasts for 16-20 bucks.
3) Damn, that looks good.
I need to learn to use kind words more often. I think I'm getting too harsh and cold for even my taste.
