Big Trouble in Little China

Everybody relax, I'm here.
-Jack Burton

Amid the snow and snow and snow, date number four was last night. The Singer is headed off to Italy next week, and she was craving Chinese. So, at her suggestion we made plans to head off to Royal Treasure for some tasty delectibles!

I picked the Singer up promptly at 7, as agreed, and we headed back down to Somerset and Lebreton. The snow on the roads had mostly melted away, but true to form, people still freeze up and panic. Parking was realitively easy to find, and I ended up right across from Bubblicity. True gentleman that I am, she was able to get out over the seemingly massive snowbank. It's really hard to be chivalrous in the middle of winter.

As we walked down to Royal Treasure, I noticed something weird... like the lights weren't on, and nobody was home. Yep, they didn't open due to the weather. Disappointed, but undaunted we were faced with decision... left or right. Left would lead us down into little Hanoi (Pho is dominant west of Lebreton). Right brings us back into China Town.

Headed back to China Town, we came to the Yangtze, a thoroughly modern edifice, after discarding So Good and Golden River due to sketchiness on the outside. It's well appointed, and clean. So, as Chinese restaurants go, it's good for white people. I'm gonna have to go back and check out So Good though, and see if they live up to their name.

Deciding on Canadian Broccoli and Beef (yes, the distinction was made on the menu), Chicken in Lemon Sauce, and Veggie Fried rice, the service was efficient. I also had two of the most wonderfully made spring rolls ever. Well spiced and crisp both inside and out.

Dinner was served promptly and we briefly had an extra dish delivered. They dropped off a dish of vegetable lo-mein, which we hadn't ordered. When this was pointed out to the waiter, he looked at us like we were plainly crazy.

Insanity aside, dinner was smashing. The rice was soft and delicate without being greasy. The beef was tender but not fatty, and filled with gingery goodness. The chicken was hot and crunchy despite being in a sauce. We ate, and we chatted, and we chatted and we chatted. Time flew, and once again three hours had passed unnoticed.

Instead of calling it a night, we headed off to Bubblicity for bubble tea. It was a real change of atmosphere since the last time I was there. The place was packed, mostly with kids half our age, but still we found a table, sipped and chatted for another ninety minutes when things got too loud and well... I was fading fast. God, I'm getting old.

So, for now, she's headed off to Italy... a trip she's really looking forward to and I'm looking forward to when she comes back and we have more to chat about.

I'd be gay for Jesus!

No, she's not Italian... she just loves Italy. She's mostly Irish. Would that she were Greek, but c'est la vie.

Anyways, I'm not about to jump the gun on this. I just enjoy chatting with her, and look forward to the next time I can.
